Why Google Bought Nest?

Google bought a cool thermostat company.  Right?  Well, there's a bit more to the strategy.

Google is one of the most astute consumer advertising companies in the world.  It can be argued one of the best.  The world of desktop advertising is switching to mobile and the Internet of Things.  Wearables. Appliances that have awareness of the surroundings.  What if these devices had a:

  1. A screen
  2. A Wifi connection
  3. An ability to talk to each other and the PowerGrid

Belkin Smart Socket

So, these devices need analytics, inform a user with a screen, are mobile (kind of).  What company in the world can leverage this platform and ecosystem, Google?

The play for Google is to enable more mobile controls of stuff.  That stuff being your home and all those things that we have in our home that we use to well...LIVE.  On a mobile Android-preferred phone, you can watch your home.  While watching, here's a few ads for you to click on.

Belkin Wemo Partnerships
Oh yeah, you are at home, why not serve up an ad like the Amazon Kindle.  I would pay for that ad placement if it could be targeted.    Guess what, I know your zip-code and your house, so I can derive your household income and a soft credit score to profile you in real-time when serving ads.

What if I partnered with appliance companies like what Belkin did to get into the ecosystem and leverage the TRUST of buyers?  When buying an appliance for the kitchen, I would buy it from  Sunbeam, etc.  Right?

A toaster from Google?  Nope.
